India is everything: chaos, calm, ancient, hospitable, new, overwhelming, traditional & deeply human
In India, moments vanish fast – constant motion & chaos make stopping to capture the perfect shot very challenging
Taj Mahal
Agra, best known as home to the Taj Mahal, a monument whose beauty & grandeur defy photography – it's something that must be seen and felt in person to be truly understood & appreciated.
Saree arts
A timeless classic
One of the most captivating elements I encountered was the way tradition is preserved, not as relic, but as living, breathing identity. The Indian saree, for instance, wasn’t just clothing – it was expression. Everywhere I looked, women wore sarees in styles and colours as diverse as the regions themselves, each drape telling a story of heritage, elegance, and individuality. These moments, small and profound, became symbols of a culture that evolves without ever losing touch with its soul. Through my lens, I aimed to honour that delicate balance – between tradition and change, resilience and grace.

For a breathtaking perspective, venture up into the Aravalli Hills, where peaceful mountaintop vantage points offer a rare escape from the city's smog, noise, and constant motion.

Ghat life in the city of death
Scenes from the city of death
Stepping into Varanasi feels like entering another realm – one where time folds in on itself, and life and death coexist in an unbroken loop. As a tourist, the city overwhelms the senses: the scent of incense and smoke from funeral pyres drifts through the alleys, mingling with the chants of priests and the rhythmic clang of temple bells. Along the ghats of the Ganges, you witness families performing last rites, pilgrims bathing in the sacred river, and sadhus meditating in quiet devotion. It’s confronting, humbling, and deeply spiritual. Death here is not hidden or mourned in silence – it is celebrated as liberation. Varanasi doesn’t just welcome visitors; it challenges them to reflect on the impermanence of life and the beauty that exists within it.
Varanasi – the spiritual captical of India
Scenes from the city of death
A photo series capturing the ancient architecture, sacred iconography, and the presence of pilgrims across the 88 ghats that stretch along the sacred banks of the Ganga River.
Summary
Photographing life in Northern India was a journey into a world of vivid contrasts and enduring spirit. From the electric chaos of Delhi to the timeless rituals on the ghats of Varanasi, each city – Agra, Jaipur, Lucknow – offered a different lens through which to see India’s layered identity. India is everything: a place of extremes where opulence and struggle coexist, where hustle meets stillness, and where the past is not just remembered but lived. What remained constant was the warmth of the people – resilient, generous, and deeply rooted in a culture that embraces both movement and memory.
